Wikitree Template

This page captures information about how I'm documenting my family tree in Wiki Tree.

Profile template

When documenting ancestors on Wiki Tree, I am using the following template:

== Biography ==

FULL_NAME was born on BIRTH_DATE, in BIRTH_PLACE<ref>Reference here</ref>.

FIRST_NAME married [[Surname-ProfileNumber|PARTNER_FULL_NAME]] on MARRIAGE_DATE, at MARRIAGE_PLACE<ref>Reference here</ref>.

FIRST_NAME passed away on DEATH_DATE, in DEATH_PLACE<ref>Reference here</a>.  FIRST_NAME was buried/cremated at the BURIAL_LOCATION on BURIAL_DATE<ref>Reference here</ref>.

== Sources ==

<references />

See also:
* Whitten, Derek. "FULL_NAME BIRTH_YEAR–DEATH_YEAR." My Family Tree. URL_TO_FAMILY_TREE_PAGE

Where possible:

  • Dates should be captured as Month dd, yyyy
  • Locations should be captured as Suburb, State, Country
  • If an event occurs at a significant location, such as a church, this should be listed before the rest of the location

Coding references

Following is an example of a reference for a death certificate.

<ref name="death-cert">Death Certificate, "Catherine Isabel Wilson". Registration number 25852/88. Copy held by Derek Whitten?</ref>

References can be given an optional name. If a name is given, the reference can be used elsewhere in the profile by using the format <ref name="death-cert" />.

The format for references is as follows:

  • Australian Birth, Marriage or Death certificates:
    • Birth/Marriage/Death Certificate, "FULL_NAME". Registration number XXXXX/XX. Copy held by [[Whitten-747|Derek Whitten]]
  • Australia Birth, Marriage or Death Index records
    • Birth/Marriage/Death Record, "FULL_NAME". Registration number XXXXX/XX.
